Christina Maxwell, the Distinguished Young Woman of America for 2012, is back in Mobile today to participate in area Veteran’s Day Activities.
Christina was named the Distinguished Young Woman of America this past June after competing for the program’s top honor against 49 other remarkable and accomplished young women from across the country.
Since being named the Distinguished Young Woman of America, Christina has received extensive media attention and recently performed the National Anthem at American Idol winner Scotty McCreery’s concert at the Raleigh State Fair in her home state of North Carolina. She was presented the key to the city in her hometown of Asheville, North Carolina and also had the opportunity to meet Governor Beverly Perdue, the first female governor of North Carolina.
Christina is attending the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan and is pursuing a degree in Musical Theater with her sights set on becoming a Broadway actress. Her diverse coursework during her first semester includes classes in piano, ballet, theory, and writing, just to name a few.
Christina will be participating in the Veteran’s Day parade in downtown Mobile Monday, November 12 at 10am. She will then attend the Veteran’s Day Luncheon at Ft. Whiting and wrap up the day as the featured speaker and performer at the Parade of Flags Ceremony held at the USS Alabama Battleship for area 4th graders.
Christina will return to Mobile in January to take part in the GoDaddy.com Bowl Game festivities.
