FOX10 and the American Heart Association invite you to "Check Your Heart"! The purpose of this community event is to raise awareness to the prevalence of heart disease along the Gulf Coast, and to empower you to take control of your life.

More than one out of four deaths in Alabama are due to heart disease, according to National Vital Statistics Report, 2009. According to that same report, 12,583 Alabama residents dies from heart disease in 2006, and 2,740 residents died from strokes that same year.

During that "Check Your Heart" event, there will be health screenings, as well as pharmacist and doctor questions, blood pressure screenings, BMI checks, CPR training, nutrition consultation, and smoking cessation assistance.

You can also enjoy chair massages and live music at the event. Lenise Ligon, Cherish Lombard, and Dani Dials will all be there for a meet and greet session. There will be giveaways including an edible arrangements fruit basket, AHA cookbooks, items from Starbucks, and evenings with personal chefs. You'll also get heart healthy snacks from Tropical Smoothie Cafe and Starbucks.

The event will take place Saturday, August 18, in the front parking lot at FOX10 / CW Studios, which is located 1501 Satchel Paige Drive in Mobile. It all starts at Noon, and will run until 3:00 pm. You can call 251-434-1010 for more information.
