It's become one of the biggest draws on the Gulf Coast. This weekend (May, 18,19 and 20, 2012) the Hangout Music Fest returns to Gulf Shores. Approximately Thirty-five thousand music lovers are coming with it.
Sixty acts, four stages, and thirty-five thousand enthusiastic music lovers in all are expected. Right now an army of workers, a full thousand strong, is getting everything ready for this weekend's Hangout Fest in Gulf Shores.
In year's past, the weekend before Memorial Day wasn't a busy one. The Hangout Fest has changed that. Eddie Spence is the owner of several restaurants in Gulf Shores. He says employees will be brought in from other locations to help out over the busy weekend.
Grant Brown, with the City of Gulf Shores, says a lot goes into dealing with the huge crowds. Last year some 200 people were arrested at the festival, mostly for possession of marijuana. Brown says security continues to be a top priority.
Some of the headliners this weekend include the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band, and Jack White of the White Stripes. The event is sold out through the hangout festival, but you might find some tickets available through ticket brokering sites.
