The Kerri Castello Tennis Tournament will be held on Saturday, March 9, at the Country Club of Mobile. Founded by the Kerri Castello Research Foundation, the event benefits the Mitchell Cancer Institute in Mobile, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
The mixed doubles event has raised nearly $600,000 since 2006. It recently won two prestigious awards from national tennis organizations. The tournament won “Charity Tournament of the Year” at the state level from the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) as well as the “Best Charity Event” in Alabama from the United States Tennis Association (USTA).
For younger players, a junior-sanctioned tournament will be held on Saturday, March 23, at CCM. Registration is available on the USTA website at www.usta.com .
The tournament honors the memory of Kerri Castello, daughter of Lora and Sergio Castello. Kerri was a patient at St. Jude after her diagnosis with bone cancer in 2000. She was a student at UMS-Wright Preparatory School, where she played tennis and served as Homecoming Queen.
