Lots of Socks: World Down Syndrome Day

Updated: Thursday, 21 Mar 2013, 11:40 AM CDT

Thursday, March 21, 2013 has been designated as World Down Syndrome Day.  Alabama Governor Robert Bentley showed his support by signing a proclamation recognizing World Down Syndrome Day in Alabama.

It is a day set aside to raise awareness and educate the general public about Down syndrome.

As a show of support, people are being asked to wear brightly colored socks, mismatched socks, or even extra socks - to signify the extra chromosome that people with Down syndrome usually carry.

The point is - to have people ask you about the socks to start a conversation and get people talking about Down syndrome.
