McKemie Place Treasure Sale

There will be a "Treasure Sale" on Friday, October 5, 2012 from 12:00 - 6:00pm, and Saturday, October 6, 2012 from 8:00am - 1:00pm to benefit McKemie Place. You'll find children's clothes, clothes for adults, baby items, furniture, household items, and lots more at the Treasure Sale, which will be held at 2569 Dauphin Street, near the railroad tracks in Midtown.

McKemie Place was founded in 2007 and is the only overnight shelter for single, homeless women in Mobile, Washington and Baldwin Counties. The first guests were given shelter in March of that year as a service under the United Methodist Inner City Mission, thanks to the efforts of the late Jamie Praytor.

McKemie Place is a safe haven for homeless women. There is a 65-bed capacity for women to stay overnight. The beds were filled more than 15,000 times since the night the shelter opened. Through the gracious assistance of volunteers, dinner is served each evening.

Some of the ladies at McKemie Place are struggling, and some have jobs and go to work each day. But all find comfort, friendship and spiritual support as they seek to rebound from the challenges life has thrown their way.

McKemie Place operates under the guidance of a board of directors, with the Rev. Tonny Algood serving as Executive Director. Shelter operation relies heavily on community support and donations.

To contact McKemie Place, send an email to info@mckemieplace.org, or call (251) 432-1122. You can visit their website at http://mckemieplace.org/.
