For many on the Gulf Coast, the Mobile Symphony’s annual holiday concert has become a family tradition to usher in the busy holiday season. This year’s concert promises to take concertgoers on a journey far away from shopping malls and checkout lines with Holidays Around the World, Saturday, Dec. 1, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 2 at 2:30 p.m. at Mobile’s Saenger Theatre.
Under the direction of Scott Speck, conductor, and accompanied by the St. Paul’s Chamber Singers, the orchestra will perform traditional and recognizable favorites such as Tchaikovsky’s Suite from the Nutcracker, O Tannenbaum, and Greensleeves. But concertgoers will also be treated to Traditional Slavic Christmas Music by composer Leopold Stokowski, Chanukah Suite arranged by Steven Danenbert and Rosanne Soifer, and Polonaise from Christmas Music by Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
Children will be especially delighted when they hear Alan Silvestri’s Music from Polar Express and John Williams’ masterful Music from Home Alone. And no holiday concert would be complete without a Christmas Sing-Along—this one arranged by Lucas Richman.
Holidays Around the World is sponsored by WindCreek Casino and Mr. and Mrs. Robert T. Cunningham Jr.
Individual tickets are $15-$55 and can be purchased online at www.mobilesymphony.org, by phone at 251-432-2010, or at the symphony box office, 257 Dauphin Street. All concerts are at the Saenger Theatre, 6 South Joachim St., in downtown Mobile.
