Mobile's National Dance Day

So You Think You Can Dance has set July 28, 2012 as National Dance Day, and Mobile residents are getting involved! Dauphin Street will be center stage for dance in Mobile on Saturday, July 28th and everyone's invited to show up Downtown and "bust a move"!

National Dance Day was founded in 2009 by the Dizzy Feet Foundation as an effort to promote dance education in the United States. Nigel Lythgoe is a founding member of the Dizzy Feet Foundation and a producer of the show So You Think You Can Dance. Judges and competitors on the show get very involved and participate in celebrations across the country.

The Downtown Mobile Alliance is excited to host National Dance Day 2012 in Mobile and invites dance fans of all ages and skill levels to go out shake it! Participants can sign up at the Downtown Mobile Alliance office at 261 Dauphin St. for the dance or dances they'd like to perform starting at 8:00am. Dancing will start in the street at 8:30am and end at 10:00am.

If you would like to start learning the routines, you can log onto Dizzy Feet Foundation's YouTube station at http://www.youtube.com/user/dizzyfeetfoundation?feature=results_main . More videos of routines will be posted soon. You can learn and sign up for any of the five official routines: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Hip-Hop, and Zumba. You can also create your own signature dance.

Each dance will be led by an experienced dancer so don't worry if your dance moves aren't mastered before the event. During the event, videographers will be in the balconies of Dauphin St. and the final videos will be submitted to the Dizzy Feet YouTube page to notify the nation that Mobile was dancing it up in honor of the holiday.

You'll find more information online at http://dizzyfeetfoundation.org/ .
