Light of the Village will host its 2nd Annual “Night in the Light” Dinner on Thursday, February 21 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Greater Gulf State Fairgrounds.
This year Light of the Village (LOV) will host Father Greg Boyle, Founder and Executive Director of Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles. Father Boyle is considered to be the nation’s expert in gang intervention and was a member of former First Lady Laura Bush’s National Gang Intervention Task Force.
Light of the Village has had an ongoing relationship with Homeboy Industries since 2007 when John Eads, founder of Light of the Village, visited Homeboy Industries in East Los Angeles. Since this time, "Homies" have been journeying to LOV semi-annually to continue nurturing and developing this partnership. This on-going relationship is the only one of its kind in the nation.
Light of the Village is a 501(c)3 located in the Alabama Village of Prichard. They are a front-line, hands-on Christian ministry designed to share Christ's message of faith, hope, and love to the inner city one person at a time in "word and deed" and in "truth and love." They serve six days a week inside this community and strive to provide a consistent presence where the love of Christ can be discovered. Some of their programs include GED classes, a small lawn care business, after-school programs, and an eight-week summer Bible camp.
