Cathedral Place Apartments wants to show off their renovations, and is inviting everyone to an Open House on Saturday, June 25 to see what's new.
Cathedral Place is an income-based facility on Conti Street in downtown Mobile. It offers a convenient, subsidized housing community for people 62 and older. Residents are within walking distance of popular local venues and historical sites. Many apartments have front-row access to Mobile's Mardi Gras celebration.
Built in accordance with the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Section 236 and Section 8 Programs, Cathedral Place’s senior residents can receive financing and rental assistance for the moderate- to low-income tenants. Plus, all utilities are furnished except for phone and cable.
Recent renovations have made Cathedral Place Apartments an even more enjoyable place to live. The exterior has been painted and landscaped to include seasonally-colored flowers. There is also bench seating in the front courtyard to enjoy the newly landscaped grounds.
The entire interior of the building, including the apartments, has received new sheetrock, a fresh coat of paint, and new flooring. Additionally, the HVAC and Boiler systems have been replaced and upgraded, including new, individual, easy-to-read thermostats in each unit to provide added comfort for its residents.
Other amenities include a newly installed ice machine for resident use, a remodeled on-site hair salon, upgraded laundry facilities, an on-site library, central computers for resident use, cable connections in each apartment, reserved parking spaces, elevated commodes with grab bars, access to free transportation for doctor’s visits, weekly transportation to the grocery, scheduled trips for general shopping, an emergency call system, and 24-hour staffing and monitored building access for added security. Pets are also welcome with a pet deposit.
The newly renovated building offers two apartment types. There are beautiful 490 sq. ft. one-bedroom, one-bathroom units, or 370 sq. ft. studio apartments with a bathroom. Both have 8-foot ceilings, a kitchenette and large picture window providing spectacular views of downtown Mobile.
Cathedral Place Apartments was established in 1970 as a housing ministry for the Catholic Diocese of Mobile. This non-profit, high-rise apartment community now serves as housing for senior citizens, and tenants do not have to be Catholic to move in. With more than 190 apartment units, Cathedral Place is well known in the Downtown Mobile area as an integral part of the local community.
