Alabama State University’s “Great Time Tour” is rolling into Mobile Thursday April 14th.
ASU’s President, Dr. William H. Harris and a team of more than 70 ASU students, faculty and staff are traveling through the South hosting a series of outreach meetings. They'll appear Thursday night at the Riverview Plaza Hotel at 6pm. They'll also make stops at Murphy High School and Satsuma High School during the day. President Harris said the “Great Time Tour” is a community outreach tour that will “explain to its residents the numerous great and positive things that are occurring at Alabama State University.” He added, “It is a great time to be an ASU Hornet.”
With today’s bad economy and college tuition costs rising, this is a positive event in which several Mobile high school students will be presented with over $250,000 in Alabama State University college scholarships!
Alabama State University is one of the nation’s oldest, state sponsored HBCU’s – founded in 1867 by nine former slaves in Marion. ASU played a pivotal part in the birth of the modern Civil Rights Movement in providing a leadership role with Dr. King’s Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955, the Freedom Rider Movement in 1961and the Selma to Montgomery March of 1965 – the National Park Service just designated ASU as the site for its new Selma to Montgomery March Trail museum.
