Come Support Freedom from Addiction!

The Freedom Luncheon is right around the corner, and you’re not too late to enjoy all the fun. The Shoulder’s biggest fundraiser of the year is scheduled Wednesday, August 24 at the Daphne Civic Center. The Silent Auction begins at 11:30 with some superb items, including diamond earrings valued at $2000, and a sunset cruise on a 60-foot sailboat.

The luncheon is from noon to 1:30 p.m. Guest speakers are Baldwin County Circuit Judges James “Jim” Reid and Robert “Bob” Wilters, both of whom were the driving forces behind establishing the Baldwin County Drug Court. They will speak on “How Addiction Affects You and Me.”

Musical guests this year are the jazz-guitar-playing duo Roman Street. This pair is acclaimed regionally for their intricate melodies and nimble finger work.

Emceeing the event is Fox 10 Television’s Chief Meteorologist Jason Smith .

The food will be provided by Naman’s Catering, and will include Caesar salad, horseradish encrusted pork loin, roasted parsley new potatoes, glazed baby carrots, hot buttered yeast rolls, and caramelized pecan pie bars.

Items on the Silent Auction can be previewed on The Shoulder’s website, www.theshoulder.org , and early bidding can begin online for one of the items. The event also includes Split the Pot, which gives participants a chance to win cash. During the festivities there will be about 20 door prizes given away to attendees as well.

The Freedom Luncheon has become an annual tradition for The Shoulder, a nonprofit residential rehabilitation center in Daphne which treats addiction to drugs and alcohol. One of the highlights of the event is testimonies from two Shoulder graduates who restored their lives and have increased their education and are pursuing successful careers.  The Freedom Luncheon will also recognize the beginning of The Shoulder’s construction of a new building. The Shoulder's old building was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Businesses are encouraged to support The Shoulder by sponsoring the Freedom Luncheon, and individuals are urged to attend. Individual tickets are $45 each. More information about sponsorships are available at the organization’s website, www.theshoulder.org . All proceeds from the Freedom Luncheon go to support the Shoulder’s nonprofit programs. The Shoulder is a United Way agency.
