Weight loss doesn't have to be a pain! Just ask Jena la Flamme, founder of Pleasurable Weight Loss . Jena has spent the past decade helping thousands of women lose weight by learning to understand the mindset that causes them to overeat in the first place. During one on one coaching sessions and at her annual Pleasure Camps, La Flamme helps women identify the issue that's kept them from losing weight, and shows them how to find pleasure thru avenues other than food.
After overcoming bulimia as a teen, Jena remained an emotional and binge eater despite her constant efforts to overcome it. The Irish born Australian bred 34 year-old spent two years practicing yoga and meditation in India before moving to the U.S. in 2001. It wasn't until she discovered pleasurable weight loss that she could really change her approach, and her figure.
Jena eventually discovered she could achieve lasting weight loss through self-respect, self-love, and dignity, instead of shame, deprivation and punishment. Through her coaching practice, la Flamme is passionate about helping women get in touch with the wisdom of their body, and knowing how to eat and lose weight pleasurably.
In Jenna's opinion, there are four main reasons what people overeat:
1) They haven't paid sufficient attention to the experience they're having while they’re eating and therefore don’t reach satisfaction
2) Their lives lack pleasure so they look to fill that void thru food
3) They haven't learned to distinguish the sensation of being full
4) They don't know how to deal with cravings
If you made a New Year's resolution to lose weight, it's important to do it the safe and healthy way, and Jena has some tips, starting with exercise. Jenna says there's no better day than today to plan ways to move your body pleasurably and as often as possible. She suggests going outside and taking a stroll while you enjoy nature, stretching each morning and evening, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, walking your dog each afternoon, and participating in dance or yoga classes.
Jenna also says it's important for you to connect with your community. Find other people who are also trying to drop a few pounds because having a person or group who has the same goals as you do can be a great support system. You can set up fitness routines together and help motivate each other.
Jenna says you shouldn't keep things bottled up. Harvesting feelings of anxiety, frustration and crankiness are bad for you. She says it's alright to talk openly about what's going on in your life with a trusted friend, or sweat out your emotions in a physical way such as exercising, instead of turning to food to stifle your emotions.
And you should treat yourself. Whether it’s putting on a great outfit, blushing your cheeks, or deeply washing and styling your hair, make sure to nurture yourself often.
