Studies show that we spend 1/3 of our lives sleeping and for many, choosing the wrong pillow can be a pain in the neck, and back! Studies also show that 45% of us sleep with 2 pillows, while 35% sleep with 3 or more pillows. In that same study, 1/3 of respondents use pillows that are less than a year old. Another 1/3 have pillows that are 1-2 years old.  Only 5% sleep on a pillow they've had for more than 5 years.

So how do you choose the right pillow? Jennifer Carmona, District Sales Manager at Anna’s Linens says it all depends on the way you sleep.

If you are a side sleeper:

  • You need a pillow that is firm, but not stiff, to keep your head level - A flimsy pillow may let your neck drop down too low, causing discomfort

If you’re a back sleeper:

  • A thin feather pillow is best to help support the neck curve - One’s head shouldn’t  be propped too far off the bed

If you’re a stomach sleeper:

  • A very thin, nearly flat pillow - The pillow is actually better used under one’s stomach (not head) to avoid lower back pain

If you tend to snore:

  • Opt for a memory foam pillow - This type of pillows contours your upper body and provides support so your breathing passages aren’t obstructed

Baby on the way?

  • Invest in a body pillow - It works to support a pregnant woman’s shape and stay in place and it also provides back and leg support where it’s needed
