INGREDIENTS:
2 lbs. Diced Turkey
4 cups Turkey stock
1 lb. Frozen mixed vegetables
½ lb. Potato, diced
2 cups Celery, chopped
Pinch of Black Pepper and Salt
1 cup Self rising flour
½ cup Milk
½ stick Butter, melted
Cooked Biscuits

STEPS:
In a large pot, cook celery, potatoes and frozen mixed vegetables in butter.  Once vegetables are slightly soft, add diced turkey and season with salt and pepper.  Add flour and cook for 3 to 7 minutes.  Add turkey stock and milk and simmer until everything thickens.

Slice the cooked biscuits in half.  In a pan or casserole dish, layer the bottom half of the biscuits on the bottom of the pan.  Pour filling over the biscuit bottoms and then put the top of the biscuits up top.  Brush the biscuit tops with melted butter and pop into a 350 degree oven for 10 to 15 minutes.

ABOUT SALVATION ARMY FAMILY THRIFT STORE:
One of our goals this year is to ramp up our Salvation Army Family Thrift Stores!

We want to remind the community that if they have any items to donate, we are just a phone call away and will pick them up from the convenience of your home. Just call 251-471-1545, and we will schedule a pick up. We are happy to accept donations of clean appliances, furniture, clothing, electronics, cars, bedding and usable household items.

The Salvation Army Thrift Stores are a great place to find bargains! You can find designer clothes, jewelry, decorative items, furniture and more at super low prices.

They are also a great place to find DIY projects. Find chairs to recover, dressers to repaint, frames to re-purpose – the possibilities are endless! The Salvation Army of Coastal Alabama has started a Pinetrest page where you can get inspired. We’ll update it with items that are in-store now and DIY projects that others have done with their Salvation Army finds!

Most importantly, every sale and donation makes a difference in someone’s life. The money from The Salvation Army Family Thrift Stores funds our resident programs. Every day, people turn to The Salvation Army at the toughest time in life. We help them get back on their feet, get back on the right path and lead a drug and alcohol free life. Many of our residents reconnect with family, complete their GEDs, find jobs, find happiness and a new purpose.

ABOUT THE CHEF:
Chef Cecil Morris Jr. is proud to call himself  “The End Product” – one of the many lives saved through The Salvation Army programs that the Thrift Stores help fund. He overcame a 15-year drug and alcohol addiction through The Salvation Army treatment programs, and has stayed ever since.

Morris started off as a dishwasher as part of his work-therapy. Throughout his recovery, he rose up the ranks and was hired part-time. Morris now manages the entire kitchen. He enjoys offering support and encouragement to residents going through the same challenges he once faced. Despite being offered jobs with high-end restaurants and hotels, Morris chooses to stay with The Salvation Army and give back to the organization that saved his life.
