MOBILE, Ala. - Some early reviews of Apple's iPad mini came in this week. Most of the reviews were very positive, with a few criticisms about the size, resolution, and price.
Wall Street Journal's Personal Tech Columnist, Walt Mossberg says, "It's about the width of the kindle fire seven inch, has a seven point nine inch screen so that's kind of a cool engineering thing. But it's significantly wider than the Nexus 7 although it is thinner and lighter, it is significantly wider."
One critic from Bloomberg said that the iPad mini is the best small tablet you can buy, but questioned the $329 price tag, asking "Is it that much better?" compared to Google's Nexus 7 and Amazon's Kindle Fire HD, both starting at $199.
Another critic from Techcrunch mentioned that the iPad mini's screen resolution is a very noticeable downgrade from the high-pixel "retina display" on the iPhone and full size iPad.
He added that this goes away over time as you use the iPad mini non-stop.
Google announced yesterday that it's teaming up with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Now, when you use Google search, or maps, you'll see an Amber Alert if one is in your area.
Google says, "By increasing the availability of these alerts through our services, we hope that more people will assist in the search for children featured in Amber Alerts and that the rates of safe recovery will rise."
Facebook launched a similar program back in January, and pledged to donate 50 million advertising impressions to promote it's Amber Alert pages.
Finally, Happy Birthday to Apple CEO, Tim Cook.
That's your Daily Tech.
