It's consignment season, and if you've never tried consigning your kids clothes, you're missing out! Not only will you make money by selling things they've outgrown, but you can you buy items that will fit them at a deeply discounted prices. Aubrey Nix, with EasternShoreMom.com , has some tips to help you get your items ready to be consigned:

1. Decide what to sell - the "Great Divide". Clear a few hours from your schedule, sit in the middle of your child's room and begin to make four piles:
Donate Pile - Items that are too worn to consign. Items have small stains, and maybe small tears. They are cheaper items that would not make much money if you consigned them.
Trash Pile - Items that are too worn to donate. This includes items with large tears or rips, or items that are soiled or stained.
Keep Pile - Things that you want to keep as treasures for your child so they'll have them when they get older. This includes special outfits like the dress your daughter wore for her first birthday, or your son's first communion outfit, or any other sentimental things.
Consign Pile - This pile is for all of the other things that did not fall into the categories above. Hopefully this will be a big pile because the more you consign, the more money you'll make!

2. Prepare your consignment items. As with any other item for sale, one that looks appealing is the one that sells. Be sure to take some time to make your consignment clothes look good on the hanger so they are eye catching to the consumer. Here are some tips:
Wash and wrinkle release clothing and use stain remover if necessary, then spray with wrinkle release before hanging them on a hanger. If needed, iron the items that are more delicate.
Clean Shoes - Be sure to take a household cleaner and clean the shoes you're going to consign. Even try soaking the bottoms of the shoes in water to rid them of any dried on dirt and other gunk. For Crocks, try using Armor-All wipes to restore Crocks to their almost original sheen and look.
Package Items Properly - If you are attaching bloomers to a dress, use safety pins and attach them to the back of the dress for easy viewing. If you are selling shoes, be sure to put the shoes in a plastic bag that is clean and crisp. You can find a package of these for $1 at the Dollar Tree.

The next consignment sale in the Mobile area is going to be at Kidz Klozet at the end of September. And there is still time to become a consignor because new consignor numbers will be issued on September 5, 2012. You'll find more details online at www.EasternShoreMom.com .
