New technology helps reduce identity theft

There’s new technology out there that will help reduce identity theft. It’s called Square . The makers of square are the same creators of a plug in device that allows businesses to accept credit cards on the go.

By using square you can pay for purchases simply by giving your name. There are certain stores that already have the program installed on registers where they just enter your name to settle the bill. Giving your name is basically saying "put it on my tab"--it’s a digital system that charges the purchase to your account. To help keep your identity safe, once you give your name, your picture pops up on the register's screen, allowing the clerk to confirm that it really is you making the purchase. A receipt is then e-mailed to your phone.

The card cas e is a system that's being tested and used in a few cities. This system would eliminate a lot of danger of credit card and debit card theft, and help make it safer for us consumers.
