Unclaimed luggage sold at discount

Lost, but not forgotten. It may surprise you what airlines do with your misplaced luggage, and what some people lose on their flights.

While it is unfortunate when someone loses their luggage, other people are cashing in on the goods.

You can actually buy the misplaced items. There’s a privately run center in Scottsboro, Alabama called The Unclaimed Baggage Center. It has exclusive contracts with all of the major U.S. airlines to buy luggage declared lost after 90 days.

Many of the items are thrown away or donated to charities, but some items are put on the store’s retail shelves. Items like diamond rings, designer shoes, surfboards and even wedding gowns. Each item is appraised and sold at a great discount.

Reports show the center has processed more than one million pieces every year for the last 40 years, so you can just imagine the great finds they have.
