There’s nothing worse than buying something and then returning to the store the next week and seeing the same item on clearance. But there is a way to tell if your item is going to be discounted.
It’s all in the price tag.
You can look at the tags and tell if the item is on sale, final markdown or if you are paying full price.
Here are some price tag code busters from popular shops in our area.
The numbers on a price tag mean more than what you are going to pay at the register. They are codes , and if you know how to read them you might just save some money.
When you are shopping at target look for sale items with the price ending in a “4.” That means that is a final markdown. Clearance stickers have a small number in the top left corner. That represents the percentage off. It goes from 10 to the lowest which is 90. After 90, if its not sold its sent back to the manufacturer.
Shopping at sears? Prices ending in “99” are regular prices. “98” means no coupons or sales, “88” is closeout, “97” is discounted and “93” means refurbished.
Anything with a price not ending in “0,” “9” or “5” at Office Depot are final markdowns.
At JcPenney prices ending in “7” is the lowest price the item will go. There’s also a way to see how much someone paid for a gift. A “u” on a gift receipt, means the person bought your gift on clearance.
At Home Depot clearance items prices always end in “6.” If they aren’t sold in a certain amount of days they get trashed.
At Sam’s Club prices ending in “91” mean clearance.
So next time you are at the store look at the tag, it has a whole lot to say.
