Daily Tech for 1-29-2013

MOBILE, Ala. - The chances of children having their identity stolen is on the rise. More than ten percent of children age five and under have someone else using their social security numbers.

The Chief Privacy Officer of Mcafee, Michelle Dennedy,- whose daughter's identity has been stolen twice says, "Make a very complicated password. Check your security settings . You should not have a security question that is answered by something you routinely post on Facebook for example. So, make sure that your security question is truly secure."

The Blackberry is getting a much-needed makeover. The first phone with the new Blackberry Ten system will be unveiled on Wednesday in New York. It will also be shown in an ad during the big game on Sunday. The face-lift is part of a plan to compete with trendy Apple products and Android devices.

It's almost tax time and if you're planning to claim certain education credits, listen up. If you file form 8863, the IRS says don't file your return until mid-February.

The IRS says it needs to update processing systems before the form can be accepted. This impacts you if you are taking advantage of the American Opportunity Tax Credit or the Lifetime Learning Credit.

Other education benefits like tuition and fees and student loan interest deductions can still be claimed starting Wednesday (Jan. 30).

That's your Daily Tech.
