Mayor John Koniar has ordered that Foley’s city hall be closed on Tuesday, August 28 due to Tropical Storm Isaac. Non-essential offices will be closed Tuesday and possibly Wednesday, depending on weather conditions, according to Koniar.
Officials said garbage collection and debris collection will also be suspended on Tuesday and will resume as soon as conditions allow.
Essential city services, such as fire and police protection, will continue. Fire Chief Joey Darby urges residents to heed safety precautions during storm conditions.
“We will be pulling in extra staff to provide adequate protection. We would like to remind residents that in the event of sustained tropical storm force winds, there is a possibility for a period of time when operations are suspended in order to protect emergency personnel,” said Darby.
Police Chief David Wilson said the police department is ready for storm conditions.
“We do plan on having extra police officers to help us with flooding or whatever this storm throws our way. We will also be keeping a close eye out on city businesses,” said Wilson.
At a called meeting Monday, Foley’s city council voted to postpone Tuesday’s scheduled municipal election. Depending on approval by the Department of Justice, the municipal election has been tentatively rescheduled for Septembers 11.
