Isaac impacts south Mississippi

HANCOCK COUNTY, Miss. (WALA) - Flooding was still a major concern Wednesday in Hancock County, Mississippi.  Residential areas and roads in low-lying areas were flooded. 

Thankfully, emergency officials ordered a mandatory evacuation in these areas Monday evening.

You didn’t even need a sign to know that Duroure Road was a 'dead end' Wednesday.  Flooding from Isaac swept over the Waveland street.

“It was really intense, the wind last night," said resident Charles Burn.  "And today, it’s just off and on.  It gets dark then it gets light, and the wind is just howling.”

Bruns couldn’t get back to his home for much of the afternoon, and he thinks the worst isn’t behind us.

“It’s moving too slowly, that’s not right," Burn said,

Flooding in the low-lying areas backs up a point Bruns previously told FOX10 News, that people might have underestimated Isaac.  For Bruns, it is even drawing comparisons to the one of the deadliest natural disasters in this nation’s history.

“Katrina was a monster. It was worse than this. It was way worse than this.  But it was more intense.  This one is unpredictable," Burn said.  "That’s what the people are scared of.”

Hancock County remains under a curfew until 6 a.m. Thursday.
