Beach officials: Isaac damage minimal

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (WALA) - Orange Beach and Gulf Shores officials say the effects of Hurricane Isaac on both cities have been minimal so far.

Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon says the city is dealing with mostly wind and rain throughout the day as well as a powerful storm surge.

He says, however, cleanup crews and city engineers are already working to examine and prepare the beaches for the upcoming labor day weekend.

“All roads in Orange Beach are open with no utility damage,” said Ken Grimes, city administrator for the City of Orange Beach. “In fact, many of our businesses stayed open throughout the storm.”

While the city continues to deal with the lingering effects of Hurricane Isaac, city leaders are hoping it will not deeply impact the tourist holiday.

Kennon says the city has already gotten calls from residents in New Orleans and Mississippi who are looking to come to south Alabama.
