DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala. (WALA) - Dauphin Island is still recovering from Hurricane Isaac.
Mayor Jeff Collier said he has contacted Comcast cable representatives and has asked them to restore cable TV service to the island.
Collier said CenturyLink representatives are restoring service to the east end.
Service on the west end will be delayed due to damage in that area caused by storm surge, sand accumulation and flooding.
Emergency Management Agency officials surveyed the west end with Collier. They found sand up to four feet piled on the roads and flooding in some areas. There is damage to some homes, but the biggest problem will be clearing the west end so people can get to their homes and check out the damage themselves.
Collier said he hopes to get the roads workable for the homeowners soon, but complete recovery will take a few months.
“Quite frankly we had a storm that basically missed us, but we still have a lot of impact as you can see and that's all coming from storm surge, wave action and high tide,” said Collier.
Dauphin Island will be open for business Labor Day weekend. Vacationers are welcome on the public beaches on the east end, but the west end will remain closed.
