GULF SHORES, Ala. (WALA) - The City of Gulf Shores is a ghost town as Hurricane Isaac continues kicking up surf in the Gulf.

"The surf at the beach has cranked up. The water is all the way up to the bulkhead near the public beach area," said Grant Brown with the City of Gulf Shores.

Many condos and businesses are boarded up as the sea level continues to rise, forcing road closures and property evacuations.

City officials said the storm surge has been their biggest challenge so far.

"Hopefully, the rains will continue to stay away from Gulf Shores," said Brown. "Overnight tonight we're expecting some of the surge to come in early early morning."

A beachfront curfew goes into effect at 8 p.m. and lasts until 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Property owners, and those with credentials are the only ones allowed to and from their residence.

Brown with the said it's important to stay away from the beaches and stay informed.
