MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The Mobile County Public School Board said the days missed due to Hurricane Isaac will not have to be made up by students or employees of the MCPSS.
Officials said Dr. Bice, State Superintendent of Education has forgiven the days missed.
Senate Bill 271 that was passed by the Alabama Legislature in 2011 provides the State Superintendent the authority to take this action when the Governor of Alabama declares a state of emergency for any part of the state.
Governor Bentley declared a statewide State of Emergency on Sunday, August 26 and also ordered the mandatory evacuation of parts of the city and county because the path, strength, and anticipated landfall of the approaching storm was very uncertain. This necessitated closing the schools in the best interest of the students and employees, the possible road closings and due to schools being used as shelters.
