Residents ride out storm in Gulf Shores

GULF SHORES, Ala. (WALA) - While Gulf Shores city officials said many residents who live near the water have moved to higher ground, FOX10 caught up with some who chose to ride out the storm from home.

As expected, Isaac has brought more water to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, flooding roads and parking lots throughout the cities.

Some residents who live along the water say they boarded up their homes and secured their valuables, but have no intention of leaving.

“If it’s a category 3, I’d be gone,” said Tom Scheer, who is riding out the storm at his Gulf Shores waterfront home with his wife, Randy. “But a tropical storm? I stay here.”

The pair said they’ve learned what to expect from previous storms like Ivan and Katrina and made preparations just in case.

“Putting up shutters, getting everything ready, putting up the storm panels,” said Scheer.

They said they are confident Isaac will only be a nuisance and plan to watch Mother Nature go to work from their balcony
