Tree crashes through roof

PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) - A Prichard family is counting their blessings after a tree crashed into their home on Rich Avenue early Thursday morning.

Becky Hardy said she was jolted awake when she heard a loud booming sound. When she ran outside, she saw a pecan tree lying on top of her son’s bedroom. It had crashed through the roof.

“When it hit, the whole house shook. The wind was blowing and it was raining. The tree crashed through the roof, right over his bed where he was laying,” Hardy said.

Her son, Steve Hardy, is a senior at Vigor high school. Hardy said debris from the tree and parts of the ceiling and roof fell on Steve’s face. Fortunately, the ceiling stopped the tree from falling on top of him.

“He was devastated. He really he was. But he got up and went to school this morning,” Hardy said.

Hardy said she is thankful her son is okay and the damage was not worse.

The family said it needs help removing the tree from their home.
