WASHINGTON (AP) — Were they booing the president? Or were they "youuu-ing" him?
In campaign season, it depends on who is doing the construuu-ing.
As President Barack Obama was working for votes on Monday in Boston, he jokingly thanked the city for trading beloved Red Sox player Kevin Youkilis to the White Sox. Obama is a White Sox fan.
The crowd booed the president in a good-natured way.
He smiled and said: "I guess I should not have brought up baseball. My mistake."
Obama's Republican rival's campaign pounced.
Mitt Romney press secretary Andrea Saul said Obama had gotten booed at his own event by mocking the Boston team.
Obama spokesman Jay Carney said the accusation was off the mark: He said more people were saying "Youk," not "boo," in honor of Youkilis.
