EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - A dog survived a horrifying ride after running out in the road, getting struck by a car and then trapped to the grille. The driver had no idea it was there.

"One of the more bizarre stories by far. Yeah, we've never come across anything like this," said Will Muggle, of the East Providence Animal Control.

According to East Providence Animal Control, on September 20, a driver going 50 miles per hour hit a small poodle-mix near Segregansett Country Club in Taunton without realizing it.

The driver continued for 11 miles until someone flagged him down. The dog was stuck inside the grill, clinging to life for the whole way.

"She was kind of wedged in there with the license plate and the license plate cover," said Muggle.

Muggle rushed to the scene and tried to pull the dog out, not knowing if she would survive.

"She was holding on to the front bumper. Holding on for dear life if it were."

Amazingly, the dog was nearly unscathed. She had a concussion which has since cleared up, and a minor bladder issue that has been fixed as well.

"This is definitely one of the luckiest dogs I've met."

Muggle said the dog has a collar and a microchip, but he still hasn't been able to find the owner.

If you're the owner of this dog, please call East Providence Animal Control at 401-435-7675 .
