LAKEWAY, Texas (KXAN) - Lakeway police in Central Texas are investigating an unusual crime, saying they think some of the evidence was thrown on a barbecue pit and eaten.

Detectives said Javier Aguirre stole a huge boar goat from a fenced pen at 15302 Nightingdale Lane in West Travis County after he and a friend cut through the fence with bolt cutters.

According to an arrest affidavit, an acquaintance of the owner overheard Aguirre admit to stealing the goat. The owner’s friend said he confronted Aguirre about some stolen tools.

According to the witness, Aguirre said, “I stole a goat, but I didn’t take your tools.”

After Aguirre’s arrest, police searched his impounded white 2006 Chevy Pickup and found what appeared to be blood and hair from the animal in the back of Aguirre's truck.

Police said Aguirre admitted he stole the goat and then took the animal to a home on Crazy Horse where he butchered it. Aguirre said he then barbecued some of the animal and gave the remaining meat to people in Apache Shores.

Aguirre allegedly admitted he planned to steal several small goats but could not catch them. Aguirre told police the “big goat was very gentle, like a dog,” so they took him.

The owner said the goat was very gentle “like a pet,” confirming Aguirre’s statement.

Aguirre remains in the Travis County Jail under a $5,000 bond. There is no word on whether charges will be filed against the friend who helped him.
