NOVA SCOTIA (CNN) - A Nova Scotia man is the proud owner of a blue lobster.

Bobby Stoddard says he and his crew caught it last month. He says this is the first time he's ever seen a bright blue lobster in his 33 years on the job. His dad has, though - 45 years ago!

The University of Maine Lobster Institute says blue lobsters are a one-in-two-million phenomenon. The crustaceans turn blue because of a genetic variation.

Stoddard offered his find to a nearby ocean research institute, but they didn't want it. He also tried selling it online but says he got some strange calls and emails.

Right now, the lobster is cooling its claws in a holding tank until Stoddard can decide what to do with it.
