Wanna bet? Gambling on the London Olympics

Betting houses expect record $155M in wagers

LONDON (AP) — London betting houses will offer odds on almost anything and this year's Olympics are no exception.

And bettors can wager on lots more than the competitive sports. There are odds on UFO sightings and whether the final torch bearer trips while ascending to light the flame.

London betting houses expect to handle a record $155 million in wagers during the July 27-Aug.12 competition.

Gambling house William Hill even encourages punters — the U.K. term for gamblers — to contact them with any bet they can dream up.

British bookmaker Ladbrokes is offering up 11,000 different wagers, including whether the athletes village in Olympic Park will run out of condoms.

William Hill says the odds of a flying saucer appearing over Olympic Stadium during Friday's opening ceremony are 1,000-1. If the aliens wait until the next day -- better luck next time.
