MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile city officials said they have targeted 13 locations to make improvements and repairs to drainage structure piping systems.
City leaders said the work will be paid for with the one cent tax increase.
STICKNEY DRAINAGE DITCH
The Stickney drainage ditch is in the 1600 block of Spring Hill Avenue in Mobile, running alongside Magnolia Manor.
It's one of more than a dozen areas Mobile drainage officials are targeting for repairs.
Mobile City Engineer Nick Amberger said, "There's a number of failures in it. The bottom of it is broken up. So every time it rains, it takes material from behind and underneath the structure on out to Three Mile Creek."
Engineers said they're in the process of determining which of the areas need attention first.
Amberger said, "If there's a repeat occurrence of the problem out there, then obviously it goes to a higher priority. So, some funds, we'll be able to kind of systematically address: some of the ditch needs and some of the failed pipe needs throughout the city."
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
If you have drainage problems in your area, city officials said they want to hear from you.
Amberger said, "The best thing to do is report it to 311, because what that does is it lets us track it. It lets us capture it in the system. Don't feel bad about calling it back in."
