MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A legislative committee has approved a $96,000-a-year contract for a Republican consultant who works with GOP members of the Alabama House.
WAKA-TV (http://bit.ly/18zgmSs ) reports that lawmakers approved the contract Thursday for David Azbell without objection.
The interim chairman of the Alabama Democratic Party, Nancy Worley, is raising questions about the contract. She says $96,000 sounds like a lot of money for a public relations consultant.
But Republican Rep. Steve Clouse of Ozark says Azbell does a lot, including helping representatives communicate with constituents.
Azbell has worked in public relations for high-profile Republicans in the past. He helped GOP House Speaker Mike Hubbard of Auburn write a book that was released last year.
