BREWTON, Ala. (WALA) - The Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff's Office said a suspect was injured after he was shot following a struggle with a deputy.
A prison booking photo depicts 24-year-old Johnathon Holliman in a hospital gown. Holliman was charged with attempting to elude an officer; possession of synthetic cannabis and drug paraphernalia; and disarming a law enforcement officer.
Chad Hosford, 26, was also arrested and charged with unlawful possession of of drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance and throwing a dangerous missile into an occupied vehicle.
The sheriff's office said the incident began Saturday after a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop, but the suspect refused to yield on Highway 41.
Officials said the suspect lost control of the vehicle at Hwy. 41 and Tippens Eddy Rd. following a crash. They then left the car and fled on foot.
The ECSO said the suspect and deputy got into a struggle and the suspect was shot.
The case has reportedly been turned over to the Alabama Bureau of Investigation for further investigation; the deputy is on paid administrative leave.
