MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - If you plan to celebrate Independence Day with Alcohol, AAA is encouraging you to arrange a safe ride home before you go out. But if you find yourself too impaired to drive, you do have a backup plan. AAA Alabama and Florida are offering free towing service for members and nonmembers alike.
Here's how it works:
Call AAA at 1-800-222-4357 (1-800-AAA-HELP) and ask for "Tow for Life" in Alabama and "Tow to Go" in Florida. The operator will ask for the driver's name, home address, telephone number and exact location of the vehicle and the driver.
The vehicle must be operable to qualify for a free tow.
A tow truck will be dispatched and upon arrival the wrecker driver will ask for identification and the keys to the vehicle. The vehicle will be towed to the driver's home or the owner's home if the owner is present.
The towing service is provided free for up to 10 miles. Tow trucks can take up to two people home. If there are more people in your party, other arrangements will have to be made for everyone else.
AAA says the service is designed to be used as a last resort and offered based on the availability of technicians and tow trucks during times of high call volume.
