MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Local organizations are helping up the ante as authorities continue to search for an arsonist on the loose.
At least 30 homes have been torched in an 8 by 5 block area around Marine Street alone since 2009.
Still authorities said no one has come forward with valuable information.
"You're destroying part of Mobile. You're destroying something that we can never recover," said Johnna Rogers, Vice President of the Mobile Historic Development Commission.
Rogers said she is hoping a higher reward will help solve the string of arsons that continue to take down historic homes in the area.
She said MHDC is putting up $500 along with the Oakleigh Garden District Neighborhood Association.
Local company HDCC & Associates, Foresnsic Investigations, LLC, has also added $250 to the reward pot for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
Rogers said the historic homes affected, although either newly renovated or abandoned, are still important.
"It does not matter what shape they're in or what size they are. A dilapidated one is simply the opportunity to make a jewel and now these will never have that opportunity," she said.
Fire officials are encouraging the public to step up and preserve Mobile's history, as well as potentially save a life.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Bureau of Fire Prevention through MFRD's Arson Tip Line at 251-208-6373 or contact a fire investigator at 251-208-7484. People can also tweet tips to the department on their arson tip page, @arsontip .
