MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The week got off to a great start for 4-year-old Starla Chapman, who is battling a rare form of Leukemia.
"When we went to tuck her into bed, I said, 'You know you have a good night and she said tomorrow is a very special day.' So, it was very exciting to see her go back to school," DeAndra Chapman said.
Monday was Starla's first day back in her pre-school classroom in a year, and last night she got to stay up for Alabama's BCS victory over Notre Dame.
The little girl has a special bond with The Crimson Tide that started with Quarterback AJ McCarron and a promise he made to her last year.
"I'm going to wear this in the big game," he told Starla.
McCarron was wearing the same "Team Starla" bracelet during Monday night's game.
"He kept his word again," Chapman said; McCarron also wore the bracelet during the 2012 game.
"Starla was running around the house and every time there was a touchdown and excitement in the house she'd jump up and down right along with us, so that was an amazing time," she said.
Of course, the best news the family has received in recent months concerns Starla's recovery.
"Starla is still in remission from her cancer, and upon our last visit to the cardiologist she now has normal heart functioning," Chapman said.
"Team Starla" is the Facebook page set up by Starla's mom to keep supporters up to date on Starla's progress, and she hopes to have a lot more positive entries to make in the future about Starla's recovery.
There's even more good news for Starla and her family. She has new baby brother.
