MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Online ticket sales begin July 1 for this year's BayFest Music Festival.
Organizers said you can expect to pay a little more this year, for the least expensive concert festival in our region. Tickets will cost $60 for a three day pass, up from $45.
So why are Bayfest ticket prices going up, again?
"The reason for it is just that costs go up. It's impossible for us to bring the big name acts and have the size and scope of our festival without having a little more revenue," said Bayfest President and CEO Bobby Bostwick Jr.
Bostwick said festival costs have increased from less than half-a-million dollars in 1995 to more than $6 million for this year's festival.
Tickets prices have increased 140 percent during that time span. That breaks down to an increase of about $1.84 per year for the past 18 years of the festival's existence.
"Those first few years we were at $25 for a three day pass, and now we're going to $60 over 19 years," said Bostwick.
So, what do you think about the weekend pass ticket price increasing to $60?
"It's too high. I mean $45 is good for the weekend, it shouldn't go up," said Jessica Vickers of Mobile.
"It doesn't really surprise me. I'm sure they're getting better acts and everything goes up. The economy is what it is," Sandy Howard of Mobile.
"That's a stretch for folks to come. I realize that's a lot of money," said Bostwick.
The early bird gets the worm, and in this case an early purchase will save you $15.
"You know $15 is not much to pay for a good time," said Howard.
Weekend pass tickets cost $45, July 1 through the July 15 after that they increase to $60.
"That's pretty good option," said Howard.
Day passes will cost $40 per day.
"Some folks decide they're going to go, and they save up money like they do for any event, and it's like a mini vacation," said Bostwick.
So, the big question may be: will people buy tickets early?
"Depend on who's here," said Vickers.
Everyone has their favorites.
"[The] Red Hot Chili Peppers," said Howard.
"I want to see Justin Timberlake and Blake Shelton," said Alexis Vickers.
Bostwick said he has to remain quiet during the negotiations with musicians.
"There are still a lot of things that need to be done before we announce acts, to be sure their actually coming -- have signed contracts, not just verbal agreements," said Bostwick.
