Changing weather can have big impacts on local fishing. Cold fronts can actually make things better, as Chief Meteorologist Jason Smith explains in this week's Fox10 Outdoors.
Last week, I showed you some of the nice speckled trout we caught on a cold December day with Captain Lynn Pridgen. Early on, the fish were biting well underneath flocks of diving seagulls. The birds quit working as the morning progressed. However, we continued to get bites drifting grubs through the same areas.
Dr. Eric Becker hooked into a big fish on a light spinning rod. We could tell that it was probably a redfish, so I reached for the landing net. It's a good thing I did, because we were about to have a unique double! I actually netted Captain Lynn's catch first, a nice catfish. With Captain Lynn's fish in the boat, it was time to scoop up Dr. Becker's nice redfish.
Redfish love artificial lures, but occasionally, catfish will hit them too. It's also interesting to catch both saltwater and freshwater species at the same time.
