PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - Officials say the search started Friday for a man who went missing in the Santa Rosa Sound near the Portofino Condominiums.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission as well as Escambia County Search and Rescue combed the waters for nearly two days.
Crews recovered a body on Sunday.
Officials with Baptist Health Care say the victim is Chief Financial Officer Kerry Vermillion who worked at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.
Authorities say Vermillion jumped off a boat in the sound and then never surfaced.
Folks that live on the coast of the Santa Rosa Sound say they saw search and rescue boats coming and going nearly all weekend long.
FOX 10 spoke to one man who says he actually practices medicine at Baptist Hospital. He says although he didn’t know Vermillion personally, it’s still a tragic loss for the hospital community.

“I saw boats in the water with flashing lights. I wasn’t sure what was going on. For a person to go have fun on the water and to not come back is tragic,"

"We are shocked and deeply saddened to learn that Kerry Vermillion, senior vice president and chief financial officer for Baptist Health Care, is the victim of a drowning accident that occurred on Friday evening.
