MILTON, Fla. (WALA) - Bay Area Food Bank, in partnership with Feeding America, is participating in the national Hunger in America 2014 study officials said.
Volunteers will be crucial to help conduct the study which will visit more than thirty food pantries in the Florida area while conducting client surveys, a release from the Bay Area Food Bank said.
The group said the study will take an in-depth look at food bank clients in an effort to find ways to better serve those in need. The data collected will capture detailed information about those receiving emergency food assistance and their circumstances.
Nearly 200 other food banks across the country will also participate in the study which, when completed, will be the largest study of charitable food assistance in the United States, officials said.
The last study, Hunger in America 2010, resulted in an extremely detailed report, drawing on data from more than 61,000 interviews with clients and surveys of 37,000 feeding agencies.
