JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. (WALA) - A 64-year-old homeless man commonly seen asking for money at the intersection of Miss. 63 and Industrial Road was arrested on Dec. 12, 2012 and charged on a possession of crack cocaine offense.
Clarence Robert Barker often holds signs stating he is a homeless war veteran who needs money for food and shelter. Motorist frequently stop and give Barker money for aid.
Agents with the Narcotics Task force of Jackson County arrested Barker after he went into a known crack house and bought a $20 crack cocaine rock.
Sheriff Mike Byrd wants to public to know that if they give Barker money, it will most likely not be spent on food and instead used to purchase crack.
Barker faces up to up 16 years in prison and a $250,000, if convicted.
