GULF SHORES, Ala. (WALA) - There are plenty of reasons that continue to draw folks to the Gulf Coast: the sugar white sands, the beautiful water, or just all the fun the coast brings.
For many beach goers here in Gulf Shores, all of that plus time with dad equaled a day to remember.
While lifeguards sat perched above, hundreds of beach goers took to the shores on Father's Day.
Many families tell FOX10 News that it's not something they often get to do.
Local Karen Uribe said she and her brother are thrilled to get the chance.
"It's fun, it's fun to get out and spend one day with my dad and celebrate him for all he does for us," said Uribe. "It's nice having him out here because he works 9 to 5 every day. After that, it's school work and homework. We don't get to spend as much time with him as we'd like to."
The recognition means a lot to the dads as well.
Eric Gunn said this is his family's first chance for a real vacation. The fact that it's on Father's Day makes it all the sweeter.
"Oh it's great to be out here. This is a blessing. You can't get any better than this," Gunn said. "It's our first real vacation and the first time I've had all my kids together when we can actually do this. It's just nice to have the ability to come and do this for a week."
Dustin Heffker just got out of the Army. He took the day aside to spend time with his young son Conner.
"The little man decided to bring me out. I'm having a blast and I can't ask for more. I'm sure Conner's loving it too. He's got a full time daddy now. It's awesome," said Heffker.
