ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (WALA) - A puppy is recovering after witnesses said it was thrown off a second story balcony in Orange Beach.
She is only 12-weeks-old, but the little husky mix has been through a lot.
Furrever Homes Animal Rescue got a call from a Good Samaritan who had a shocking crime to report.
Vice president of the organization, Elizabeth Clark, said they told them a puppy had been tossed off a second story balcony.
"We were told she nipped at their child, so she lashed out by throwing her over the balcony. Puppies play. They have sharp teeth and they play that's what they do," said Clark.
Her Name is "Nava" and she needed medical attention ASAP.
"Her shoulder was shattered. Her leg was broken in at least one other place," said Clark.
The best option was amputation. Nava's from leg was removed, but that hasn't stopped the little girl.
"She acts like she didn't even know she had a fourth leg," said Clark.
Nava still has some recovering to do before she can be placed in a ‘furrever' home. In the meantime, the rescue group is focused on holding the person responsible accountable. President Steve Williams said they are working with police to bring animal cruelty charges.
"We want to make sure when things like this happen, they are brought to light and they don't just skate free," said Williams.
The initial police report was filed through Gulf Shores, but after a little investigating, they found out the incident happened in Orange Beach.
Orange Beach Police are working to get to the bottom of the issue.
"It's our rescue motto, we are the voice of the voiceless and we will speak for these animals who can't speak for themselves," said Williams.
If you would like to donate to Nava and the rest of the animals in need through Furrever Homes visit their website.
