Kelli Kuehne stopped by Studio 10 to chat with Joe about the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic at Magnolia Grove. She also shares her struggle with Type 1 Diabetes.
Kelli Kuehne, is well known on the professional golf circuit. For 14 years she was a professional golfer on the LPGA tour and now works as a commentator for professional golf. On top of all that she has been living with Type 1 Diabetes since she was 10-years-old, has been an insulin pumper for 15 years and works tirelessly to build awareness for diabetes.
Kelli often speaks candidly about her success in overcoming the obstacles of diabetes. As a national spokesperson for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), Kelli is actively involved in raising awareness, promoting healthy management of juvenile diabetes, inspiring children to live their dreams and face the challenges associated with Juvenile Diabetes. In fact, Kelli and her family were instrumental in organizing and hosting a JDRF golf fundraiser entitled "Kelli Kuehne's Teeing it Up for the Cure to Diabetes." During its 7-year run, the event raised $2.4 million dollars for the JDRF.
In addition to her LPGA Tour Win at the 1999 Corning Classic, Kelli is the only golfer ever to win the US Junior Girls (1994), the US Women's Amateur (1995) the British Amateur (1996) and the US Women's Amateur (1996) in consecutive years. Kelli also represented the United States for two Solheim Cup teams and was recognized for her golf accomplishments in 2007 with an induction into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.
Kelli resides in Park City, UT with her husband Paul and their daughter.
