CHICKASAW, Ala. (WALA) - FOX10 continues to search for answers regarding a car accident involving a police cruiser and a family of four.
FOX10 has requested the accident report from officials, but, as the investigation is ongoing, they are unable to comment at this time.
Investigators said two officers in a police cruiser were responding to a burglary call when their car collided with the vehicle at the Delaware Street and Thompson Boulevard intersection in Chickasaw on Thursday, January 31.
Since the accident, officials and witnesses have offered conflicting reports about whether or not the lights and emergency sirens were active when the cruiser as it responded to a call.
Witnesses said there were "No lights, no sirens. There was a stop sign. (The officer) ran right through it and right into this family."
Chickasaw Police Department Sgt. Tommy McDuffie said, "lights and sirens were on, activated on the patrol car, as they were en route."
The trial for Giuseppe Pino LoPorto continues today in Baldwin County. LoPorto, now 80-years-old, faces several sex abuse charges against a child dating back to the early 90s.
