GULF SHORES, Ala. (WALA) - The City of Gulf Shores could soon see some big changes, as officials are in the process of a major rebranding effort in the area.
The beautiful sugar white sand beaches and laid back atmosphere of Gulf Shores have been attracting vacationers from around the country for decades.
Now, it's in the middle of getting a facelift in the form of a new rebranding plan.
City Marketing Coordinator Blake Phelps said the area's increased popularity led to the change.
"Gulf Shores is a small town, big beach community. It's who we are. It's our tagline, and it will be implemented into everything that we do," said Phelps.
That includes the city's newly redesigned website , which was just unveiled this week.
Officials began around 18 months ago, working with professionals to develop a brand new logo.
That logo will go on new welcome signs which will be swapped with temporary ones already in place.
Phelps said the decision to change the brand, which has been the same for around 50 years, came after surveying the public and months of preparation.
"We've got a lot of things here for vacationers, but it's still a tight knit small town community. We want to communicate that with locals and visitors. The new website will help us increase our service and what we can do for the public," Phelps said.
Phelps said they've received an overwhelming positive response to the small town, big beach brand. He says many businesses along the beach are taking that message to heart.
Director of Operations with the Hangout Brad Cohen thinks it all makes perfect sense.
"It's very attractive for family vacations or people looking for different experiences, whether it's spring breakers or festival goers. I think the branding tells people that," said Cohen.
Gulf Shores resident Cole Linam agrees.
"I loved it. It gives the beach more of a modern look and I think it'll help with tourism and put everything back on the map," Linam said.
Signs with the motto will also be placed around town. They should be up within the year.
